Pottery (Hand-Building)

Structured and unstructured use of clay has benefits for older adults, including improved quality of life. This program is intended to provide a meaningful experience making pottery that supports physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Cognitive Stimulation

A 30-minute cognitive session for adults with mild dementia using sound/touch items and reminiscence. Led by RTA/Rec T (BLS and DPG certified). Supports memory, attention, and social engagement, offers adaptations, and is evaluated with MMSE scores.
Goals:
  • Increase or maintain cognitive performance
  • Increase or maintain long-term memory recall
  • Increase sensory stimulation
  • Improve or maintain attention/concentration
  • Improve or maintain language skills

Group Size: Groups with 8 participants to 2 recreation staff members, and can be implemented as 1:1 for lower functioning participants.

The Price is Right

This is designed for clients with mild to moderate dementia. Statement of Purpose: The purpose of this intervention is to stimulate appetite and reduce wandering during mealtimes.

Group Size: 3-5 clients per 1 staff but could be modified for 1:1
