Differential Diagnosis and Dementia: Implications for Therapeutic Recreation

This series dives into the complexities of dementia by helping users understand and differentiate between depression, delirium, and dementia. We then examine Alzheimer’s disease and other etiologies of dementia and conclude by discussing the therapeutic recreation implications for the prevention and nonpharmacological treatment of dementia-related behaviours.

1. Participants will be able to recognize the characteristics that define depression, delirium, and dementia.
2. Participants will understand the implications of therapeutic recreation for persons with dementia
3. Participants will be able to name the major etiologies of dementia.
